Coffee is one of the most heavily-imported crops in the world. As with any industry, there are tremendous ranges of quality, ethics, and care that go into the growing, processing, roasting, and preparation of coffee. Our mission at Mean Gene’s Beans is to show the world of specialty coffee to new faces and spread awareness of Farmgate Certified coffee, Fair-Trade importing practices, and rights for the Farmers whose dedication and craft allow us to bring you the best cup of coffee we can provide.

All of the factors above contribute to quality, flavor, and enjoyability of your daily cup. We believe that when a specialty coffee roaster does the proper research and dials in a great roasting profile that it can change the way a standard coffee drinker views the entire industry.

Do I have to invest a ton of money to enjoy a decent cup of coffee?

While it may be intimidating at first, a basic French Press or Pour Over and a grinder are all you really need to transform the way you enjoy coffee at home.

Where are you Located? Do you Have a Physical Storefront I can come to?

We started roasting coffee out of our apartment in the Hi-Desert of Southern California and slowly moved roasting production to a rental facility to accommodate for the heavy machinery that roasting and packaging coffee require. We do not have a storefront yet, but we do sell Online and at pop-up events, Farmer’s Markets, and Private Catering Events. We hope to slowly work towards opening a storefront and building a community of coffee, music, and art lovers alike in our local area as soon as possible!

Why are you doing this?

Growing up in the Coachella Valley and Hi-Desert of Southern California, we realized there was a lack of quality coffee in an area dominated by big-brand coffee companies. While the local coffee industry has begun to expand with some amazing local roasters in years past, we figured we’d give it a shot and join the party! Miss the local Mom and Pop coffee shops that hosted all-ages shows, fundraisers, open mics, and offered some of the best coffee in town? We do too. While it’s a long project to acquire a space for our dream cafe and community hangout, we hope to set up pop-ups at local events and provide the highest quality drinks we can while meeting fellow coffee enthusiasts.
